Saturday: arrival in Dijon
You board the barge in Dijon, the beautiful capital of Burgundy, and meet the crew and your tour leader. You have time to install in your cabin and relax after your journey.
Sunday: Dijon – Lake Kyr – Dijon, cycle tour ± 20 km
After a delicious breakfast it is time for a short bike ride to the northwest of Dijon. When the weather is nice we take a break at Lac Kir to swim and relax. Halfway through the afternoon we take a very special city walk through the center of Dijon.
Monday: Dijon – Côte d’Or – Longecourt en Plaine, cycle tour ± 45 km
The day starts with a small boat trip through the first two locks of the Burgundy canal. Then we cycle further through the region, along a beautiful wine route in the famos Côte d’Or region. The cycling trip ends in the village of Longecourt-en-Plaine. A visit to the clocal astle is very worthwhile.
Tuesday: Longecourt en Plaine – Auxonne – St. Jean de Losne, Cycle tour ± 45 km
The bike ride leads through forests, on small raods and through authentic Burgundy villages to the beautiful town of Auxonne, located at the river Saône. After a stroll across the town centre we follow the cycle lane alongside the river to the village of St. Jean de Losne, where the Burgundy Canal and the Saône river meet.
Wednesday: St. Jean de Losne – Suerre, cycle tour ± 45 km
You start wih a visit to the charming little Musée de la Batellerie about barging in France. The bicycle route leads tpast the pretty abbey of Citeaux. Here we find a nice picnic area and a shop where you can buy the famous abbey cheese. Further on the itinary is on a towpath following the Saône. The bike tour ends in the town of Seurre.
Thursday: Seurre – Beaune – Chalon sur Saône, cycle tour ± 25 km
Today we cycle to the fortified town of Beaune, known for its many tasty Côte d’Or wines . The tour guide takes us on a guided walk through the town centre passing some of the highlights of this pearl of Burgundy: the Collegiale Notre-Dame cathedral and the Burgundy Wine Museumthe. Very recommendable is a visit to the Hôtel Dieu, the medieaval hospital for the poor. You travel by train to Chalon sur Saône, a port town located on both the river Saône and the Canal du Center. The ancient town is situated on an island in the middle of the Saône river.
Friday: Chalon sur Saône – Tournus, cycle tour ± 60 km
We leave Chalon sur Saône on our bikes and follow a pleasant cycle lane that used to be an old railroad. In Buxy we visit the local winery ‘Cave Cooperative’ for a wine tasting. The bike route descends slowly to the river Saône and finishes in the pleasant provincial town of Tournus. The beautiful St. Philibert church is certainly worth a visit. The 10th century abbey has exceptional architecture and is one of the oldest in all of France.
Saturday: Tournus, end of bike and barge tour
Your tour leader and crew say goodbye to you today, but not before we have a last nice breakfast aboard. Your tour leader will guide you on the train ride to Dijon.
Each next cycling and sailing tour starts in the reverse order: start in Tournus and end in Dijon.
