With the help of a map and an information package you will cycle around the IJssel Lake, Holland’s largest inland water. You get acquinted with the towns and villages which were once situated at the former inland sea known as Zuiderzee.
Your holiday starts in Weesp, a small town at the river Vecht, by train only 20 minutes from Amsterdam. Along the river Vecht you cycle to Muiden and from there along the former coast of the Zuiderzee to the smalled walled town of Naarden. You will arrive at your hotel near Laren, an artistic village.
Crossing polderland, forestries and moorland you reach the lively town of Harderwijk. Your hotel is situated in the centre at the marketsquare.
On route to the next hotel in Zwartsluis, you may visit the small fortified town of Elburg.
In Giethoorn, also known as the ‘Venice of the North’, it is worthwhile to make a canal cruise by ‘punter’. Right in the heart of National Park De Weerribben, a unique marshland, you will sleep in the next hotel.
You arrive in the province of Friesland. Along the Tjeukemeer and the town of Lemmer you cross a wooded area called Gaasterland. You’ll find your hotel in the small village of Rijs.
The next day a ferry will take you across the IJssel Lake to the beautiful port town of Enkhuizen. From here on you undertake the last stretch of cycling ending up in Hoorn, where you will dine in the old harbour overviewing the traditional sailing ships.

In the afternoon you arrive at your hotel in Weesp, the starting point of your cycle holiday.
Sunday: Cycling ± 30 km
Along the small river Vecht and via the village of Muiderberg you reach Naarden-Vesting, one of the best kept fortified towns in the Netherlands. Across the moorlands near the ‘Tafelberg’ the routes leads you to Blaricum und further to your hotel in Eemnes. In the evening you may visit the ‘artist’ village of Laren.
Monday: Cycling ± 50 km
Through the polders of Eemnes you cycle to the fishermen’s village of Spakenburg, where perhaps you may spot some inhabitants wearing the traditional clothing. Further on to Nijkerk, you pass an old steam pumping works worth a visit. A cycle ride across woods and moorland brings you in the lovely town of Harderwijk.
Tuesday: Cycling ± 70 km
Today we reach first the small harbour town of Elburg. After a short break you follow the road along the Veluwe Meer and Dronter Meer to the hanseatic town of Kampen.
Wednesday: Cycling ± 40 km
Along some vast lakes you cycle to Giethoorn, the ‘Venice of the North’. In this village you can undertake a round trip in a ‘punter’, a traditional boat which has been especially constructed for the narrow canals of Giethhoorn. A stroll through the village is also a good idea. A bit later you cross ‘De Weerribben’ by bike and reach Steenwijk and Ossenzijl. Here is your hotel at the visitors centre of the national park ‘De Weerribben’.
Thursday: Cycling ± 40 km
We cycle further past dreamy villages and a lake called Tjeukemeer. In Lemmer you may plan your lunch stop, it has a nice little harbour, full of all kind of ships. One and a half hour later you reach the village of Rijs, where you find your hotel.
Friday: Cycling ± 35 km
In one hour you reach Stavoren. A big ferry takes you in 80 minutes to the other side of the IJssel Lake, to the historical harbour town of Enkhuizen in the province of Noord-Holland. After visiting this town you cycle along the dike to Hoorn. In the afternoon you will reach your hotel in Hoorn. Dinner takes place in a restaurant at the harbour. Here you really can taste the great atmosphere of this old town by looking at all the traditional sailing ships.
After breakfast you check out your hotel and your holiday has come to an end.
